Cookies and browser storage

Updated 16 October 2026. This notice explains the cookies, browser storage and optional analytics controls used by Brainaris. Pages can be read without accepting optional analytics.

Cookies are small values that a browser stores for websites or services. Local storage keeps values for a site in the browser until the site or browser removes them. Their lifetimes are separate from how long a provider retains information already collected.

Necessary operation and reader preferences

WordPress uses authentication and session cookies when an editor signs in. Cloudflare may use security cookies when its protection features require them; these are separate from readership analytics. See Cloudflare’s cookie documentation for feature-specific names and purposes.

The local-storage key brainaris_consent remembers the version, analytics choice and time of that choice on this device. The site accepts it for up to 180 days, then asks again; the validity limit does not automatically delete the stored value. A temporary brainaris_consent_probe value is written and immediately removed to check whether preferences can be saved.

If you choose Like on an article, a local-storage key beginning brainaris:like:v1:post- remembers that preference. It remains until you undo the like or clear browser storage. It does not create a public like count. Signing out ends the editor session; your browser can remove other stored site data.

Optional Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity

Google Tag Manager and its Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity tags load only after you accept analytics. Analytics consent is optional; advertising consent remains denied. These tags are excluded from signed-in visits, administration, previews, search, error pages, feeds and URLs with unapproved query parameters.

Links containing only validated UTM campaign labels can be measured after analytics consent. Google Analytics receives a cleaned page URL and approved campaign labels; Clarity can record the approved campaign URL. Do not put personal information in campaign labels.

Google Analytics may set _ga and _ga_* first-party cookies to distinguish browsers and maintain session state. This integration configures their lifetime to 60 days, subject to browser limits and cookie updates. Cookie lifetime is separate from report-data retention. See Google’s GA4 cookie documentation.

Clarity may set _clck to retain its site-specific identifier and preferences, and _clsk to connect page views into a session. Provider cookies and their lifetimes can depend on consent, browser behavior and Microsoft’s configuration. See Clarity’s cookie inventory and Clarity’s consent documentation. Strict masking is configured for page text in recordings.

Change or withdraw your choice

Open Cookie settings on a public page to accept analytics, reject optional measurement or save an updated preference. Rejecting optional measurement keeps this integration’s external analytics scripts blocked. Without JavaScript, or when a choice cannot be saved, optional analytics remains off.

When you withdraw an existing opt-in, the site attempts to clear accessible first-party _ga, _ga_*, _clck and _clsk cookies and reloads the page if the tracking scripts had loaded. The site cannot remove provider cookies on other domains or erase analytics already collected.

Browser controls can clear stored data or block cookies. Clearing the saved consent choice means optional analytics will remain off until a new valid opt-in is saved.

For how these services process information, retention details and privacy requests, read the Privacy policy.
